The Ring

HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THIS RING?! 

Chris did such a fantastic job! He bought a diamond in the Spring of 2016, because he knew he wanted to propose one day. Then in the Fall of 2016, Chris sent the diamond off to sunny California, to Sarah's favorite ring designer, Heidi Gibson. Heidi did a fantastic job, setting the diamond into one of her Cambria settings (Sarah's favorite). The ring is a mixture of metals, including both rose gold and white gold. Heidi sent Chris the ring right around Christmas of 2016. Chris knew that Sarah wanted to share the news with the families, so he waited to find the perfect time when everyone could get together.

The Proposal Plan 

Chris knew Sarah would like to celebrate her engagement with family as soon as it happened, so he needed to find a time when the entire family would be in one place, or at least be able to travel to get to one place. He held onto the ring until May 10, 2017, when he proposed on a Wednesday evening at Goodale Park in the Short North, a neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio.

The Proposal

Chris took Sarah out to dinner at Bakersfield in the Short North (a place with great guacamole). After, Chris suggested they walk around Goodale park. Sarah obliged because she happened to have her new camera and wanted to get a few shots. She took one of her favorite shots of Chris walking to the restaurant that evening (seen above), not knowing what was about to happen.

Chris took Sarah to a specific park bench--the same one where they used to sit and catch Pokemon when the game first came out and where they sit every so often to watch the ducks in the pond. When he was ready, Chris got down on one knee and asked Sarah to marry him. In typical Sarah fashion, she did not understand what was happening, and promptly asked Chris to get up so he didn't get his pants dirty. If you know Sarah well, you know that this is likely the type of story you expected to read.

Once Sarah got the hint, she said "yes." Chris and Sarah rounded out their evening in the Short North by enjoying a couple drinks at the new bar "Two Truths" that opened by their apartment.

The Announcement to the Families

Chris had pre-planned a dinner with the families at The Whitney House in Worthington for a "Mother's Day Celebration." The night after the proposal, Chris called his Dad, told him he was engaged, and asked him and Sally to come down and celebrate at their dinner that Friday evening.

Sarah and Chris had kept their proposal a secret until the dinner that evening when they surprised the entire family outside of the restaurant.

They have been excited and planning their wedding ever since!
